TUBB4 siRNA is a small interfering RNA (siRNA) therapeutic candidate designed to silence the expression of the TUBB4 (Tubulin beta-4 chain) gene. Research presented at the AACR 2017 meeting suggests that TUBB4 is significantly associated with the glucose transporter GLUT1 in mesenchymal glioblastoma (GBM) subtypes. By utilizing siRNA to knock down TUBB4, researchers aim to disrupt the trafficking of GLUT1 to the cell membrane, thereby reversing the Warburg Effect (glycolytic metabolism) and inhibiting the proliferation of cancer stem cells. This approach is being explored as a potential treatment for aggressive, high-grade glioblastoma.
