Overview

Tuberculin PPD RT 23 SSI is a purified protein derivative (PPD) prepared from a culture of seven selected strains of Mycobacterium tuberculosis. It is used as a diagnostic agent in the Mantoux tuberculin skin test to detect infection with Mycobacterium tuberculosis. The preparation contains specific amounts of the protein derivative and excipients such as disodium phosphate dihydrate, potassium dihydrogen phosphate, sodium chloride, potassium hydroxyquinoline sulphate, polysorbate 80, and water for injection. When injected intradermally (usually in the forearm), it elicits a delayed-type hypersensitivity reaction in individuals previously sensitized by mycobacterial infection. The size of induration at the injection site is measured after 48–72 hours to determine exposure or latent infection with tuberculosis[1][3][6][7].
