The tuberculosis mRNA vaccine is an investigational mRNA-based vaccine candidate being developed by Afrigen Biologics and Vaccines for the prevention of tuberculosis (TB). Developed as part of the World Health Organization (WHO) and Medicines Patent Pool (MPP) mRNA Technology Transfer Hub initiative in South Africa, the vaccine is designed to deliver mRNA encoding specific Mycobacterium tuberculosis antigens to stimulate a protective immune response. The development is a collaborative effort with the South African Medical Research Council and academic partners including the University of Cape Town and the University of the Witwatersrand. As of 2024, the candidate remains in the early stages of the development pipeline.
