Tuberoinfundibular peptide of 39 residues (TIP39) is a naturally occurring neuropeptide and the endogenous ligand for the parathyroid hormone 2 receptor (PTH2R). It is a polypeptide consisting of 39 amino acids and is encoded by the PTH2 gene in humans. TIP39 acts as a potent and selective agonist at PTH2R, with high affinity and efficacy in both human and rat receptors. Its primary physiological roles include regulation of pituitary hormone secretion and modulation of pain perception via spinal cord circuits. TIP39 has also been implicated in social behavior regulation based on animal studies. Structurally, it shares some homology with parathyroid hormone but displays unique features that confer selectivity for PTH2R over other related receptors[1][3][6][7].
