Overview

Tulathromycin is a semi-synthetic macrolide antibiotic of the triamilide subclass, primarily used in veterinary medicine. It is indicated for the treatment and metaphylaxis of bovine respiratory disease (BRD) in cattle, swine respiratory disease (SRD) in pigs, and certain infections in sheep such as early-stage infectious pododermatitis (foot rot). Its mechanism of action involves selective binding to bacterial ribosomal RNA, inhibiting essential protein biosynthesis by stimulating dissociation of peptidyl-tRNA from the ribosome during translocation. This results mainly in bacteriostatic activity but can be bactericidal against some pathogens. Tulathromycin exhibits a long duration of action due to its extensive tissue distribution and slow elimination, especially accumulating in lung tissue[1][2][3][4].
