Tulipa edulis (Chinese name: 山慈姑) is a perennial bulbous plant in the Liliaceae family, native to East Asia and used in traditional Chinese medicine. The inner portion of its bulb is applied as an antidote, antipyretic (fever reducer), depurative (detoxifier), expectorant (promotes secretion of sputum), febrifuge (reduces fever), and laxative. It is mainly used as a poultice for ulcers and abscesses; the leaves are applied externally to treat abscesses and breast diseases. The flowers are sometimes used for dysuria treatment. There are reports of its use in cancer therapy within traditional practices[1][2][3][6]. Its mechanism appears to be based on general anti-inflammatory, detoxifying, antimicrobial effects typical of many medicinal bulbs rather than a specific molecular target identified by modern pharmacology.
