This is an investigational autologous dendritic cell vaccine developed by Inge Marie Svane and colleagues at Herlev Hospital for the treatment of metastatic renal cell carcinoma. The therapy involves harvesting a patient's own dendritic cells, maturing them ex vivo, and loading them with tumor-specific antigens. Depending on the patient's HLA-A2 status, the cells are pulsed with either a cocktail of synthetic peptides (specifically survivin and telomerase) or autologous/allogeneic tumor lysate. These antigen-loaded dendritic cells are then administered intradermally to stimulate a systemic T-cell mediated immune response against the tumor. In clinical studies, this vaccine has been evaluated in combination with low-dose interleukin-2 and thymosin alpha 1 to enhance the expansion and anti-tumor activity of the induced T cells.
