Overview

Tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes (Leiden University) is an autologous cell-based immunotherapy developed by Leiden University Medical Center for the treatment of advanced melanoma. The therapy involves the surgical extraction of a patient's tumor tissue, from which naturally occurring T cells (TILs) are isolated and expanded ex vivo to therapeutic quantities. These expanded TILs are then re-infused into the patient to recognize and destroy tumor cells by targeting a broad repertoire of patient-specific tumor antigens. In the ACTME clinical trial (NCT03638375), this TIL product is evaluated in a combination regimen with nivolumab (a PD-1 inhibitor) and low-dose pegylated interferon-alpha (IFNα) to enhance anti-tumor activity and overcome resistance to standard immune checkpoint blockade in patients with stage III/IV melanoma.
