Overview
This investigational immunotherapy consists of autologous dendritic cells that have been "pulsed" or loaded with tumor lysate (dead fragments of the patient's own lymphoma cells). Dendritic cells are professional antigen-presenting cells that, when loaded with tumor-specific antigens, can activate and direct the patient's T-cells to recognize and destroy malignant cells. In the context of research sponsored by the National Center for Research Resources (NCRR), this vaccine is administered following high-dose chemotherapy and autologous stem cell support for patients with relapsed Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. The treatment protocol typically involves the co-administration of interleukin-2 (IL-2) to further stimulate the immune response and enhance the sensitization of the patient's immune system to the lymphoma cells.
