Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Turmeric extract cream is a topical formulation containing extracts from the rhizome of Curcuma longa (turmeric), primarily standardized for curcuminoids such as curcumin. It is used in dermatology and alternative medicine for its anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antibacterial, and wound-healing properties. Topical application has been studied for conditions like atopic dermatitis and inflammatory skin disorders; some studies suggest it may reduce erythema, scaling, thickening, itching, facial spots, fine lines, and wrinkles[9]. The mechanism of action is thought to involve inhibition of NF-κB activation and downstream pro-inflammatory mediators. Turmeric’s active compounds also exhibit antimicrobial effects that may benefit infected wounds or acne[8][6]. While generally considered safe when applied to the skin[1][3], rare allergic reactions (contact dermatitis) have been reported[10].
