Overview

TVB-3166 is a potent, selective, and reversible small molecule inhibitor of fatty acid synthase (FASN), the enzyme responsible for the de novo synthesis of long-chain fatty acids. Developed by Sagimet Biosciences (formerly 3-V Biosciences), TVB-3166 is widely used as a preclinical research tool to study the metabolic dependencies of various cancers. By blocking FASN activity, the compound disrupts the production of palmitate, which is essential for membrane synthesis, energy production via beta-oxidation, and the lipid modification of proteins. In oncology research, TVB-3166 has demonstrated the ability to induce apoptosis and inhibit the migration and survival of cancer cells, particularly in models of breast cancer where fatty acid turnover is high. It is often used to validate FASN as a therapeutic target in metabolic and oncological diseases.
