Overview

TW-4752N is a transdermal patch formulation of rivastigmine, a cholinesterase inhibitor, developed by Towa Pharmaceutical. Rivastigmine is a carbamate derivative that acts as a dual inhibitor of both acetylcholinesterase (AChE) and butyrylcholinesterase (BuChE). By inhibiting these enzymes, it increases the concentration of acetylcholine in the brain, which is intended to improve cognitive function in patients with mild to moderate Alzheimer's disease and Parkinson's disease dementia. The transdermal delivery system is designed to provide continuous drug release over 24 hours, offering a more stable plasma profile and potentially better tolerability compared to oral administration. TW-4752N has been evaluated in pharmacokinetic studies, including trials investigating the impact of topical steroids on its systemic absorption.
