TW11681 and TW10722 are live bacterial challenge strains of enterotoxigenic *Escherichia coli* (ETEC) developed by the University of Bergen for use in controlled human infection models (CHIMs). These strains are specifically selected to produce heat-stable enterotoxin (ST) but not heat-labile toxin (LT), making them suitable for evaluating the efficacy of ST-based vaccine candidates. TW11681 (serotype O19:H45) expresses colonization factors CFA/I and CS21, while TW10722 (serotype O115:H5) expresses CS5 and CS6. In clinical studies, these strains are administered orally to healthy volunteers to induce experimental diarrhea, establishing a standardized challenge model for vaccine testing. TW10722 has been identified as particularly effective, achieving high attack rates at specific doses.
