Overview

The Twincer dry powder influenza vaccine is an investigational inhalable vaccine formulation developed by the University of Groningen (Rijksuniversiteit Groningen). It utilizes the Twincer disposable dry powder inhaler—a device originally designed for high-dose pulmonary delivery—to administer a thermostable, stabilized dry powder form of inactivated influenza virus antigens directly to the respiratory tract. By targeting the respiratory mucosa, the vaccine aims to induce both local mucosal and systemic immune responses against influenza A and B viruses. A key innovation of this product is its thermostability, which eliminates the need for the stringent cold-chain storage and transport required by traditional liquid influenza vaccines. It is currently being evaluated in a first-in-human, dose-ascending clinical trial to assess safety, tolerability, and immunogenicity.
