TX-806 is a first-in-class small molecule inhibitor designed to target the HIV-1 Matrix protein (MA, also known as p17). Developed by the French biotechnology company Toxis, TX-806 represents a novel approach to antiretroviral therapy by interfering with both the early and late stages of the viral life cycle. Specifically, it binds to the Matrix protein and disrupts its interaction with the host cell's plasma membrane, thereby inhibiting viral assembly and budding. Unlike standard-of-care therapies that target viral enzymes such as reverse transcriptase, protease, or integrase, TX-806 targets a structural protein, offering a potential therapeutic option for patients with multi-drug resistant HIV-1 strains. Development of the compound appears to have ceased in the preclinical or early clinical stages following the reorganization of the developer.
