TXA-070 is an investigational oral small molecule therapeutic being developed by Wuhan Kefu New Drug and Suzhou Hemaijia Pharmaceutical for the treatment of moderate-to-severe melasma. Based on its nomenclature, TXA-070 is likely a derivative or optimized formulation of tranexamic acid (TXA), a lysine analog that acts as an antifibrinolytic agent. In the treatment of melasma, the drug functions by inhibiting the plasminogen/plasmin system; this inhibition prevents the release of pro-melanogenic factors such as arachidonic acid and alpha-melanocyte-stimulating hormone (α-MSH) from keratinocytes, thereby reducing melanin synthesis by melanocytes. TXA-070 is currently being evaluated in a Phase 1 randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study (CTR20262381) to assess its safety, tolerability, and pharmacokinetics in healthy adult volunteers.
