The drug's mechanism of action involves the inhibition of bacterial DHFR, an enzyme essential for the synthesis of tetrahydrofolate, thereby disrupting bacterial folate metabolism and preventing DNA synthesis and cell growth. This program aims to address the growing clinical need for new antibiotics to treat multidrug-resistant sexually transmitted infections.
