Drug intelligence / Profile preview
TXA709c is an investigational small-molecule efflux pump inhibitor (EPI) being developed by TAXIS Pharmaceuticals. It is designed to target and inhibit bacterial efflux pumps, which act as cellular defense mechanisms by actively expelling antibiotics from bacterial cells. By blocking these pumps, TXA709c prevents the extrusion of co-administered antibacterial agents, thereby increasing their intracellular concentration and restoring or enhancing their efficacy against multidrug-resistant (MDR) pathogens. The program is currently in preclinical development, with a primary focus on treating Gram-negative multidrug-resistant infections, including Hospital-Acquired Pneumonia (HAP) and Ventilator-Associated Pneumonia (VAP).
