TY-51924 is a small molecule cardiovascular investigational agent developed by Toa Eiyo for the treatment of acute myocardial infarction (AMI). It functions as an inhibitor of the mitochondrial permeability transition pore (mPTP). The opening of the mPTP is a critical event in the pathogenesis of myocardial ischemia-reperfusion injury, occurring when blood flow is restored to ischemic tissue. This opening leads to mitochondrial swelling, loss of membrane potential, and subsequent cardiomyocyte death. By inhibiting mPTP opening, TY-51924 is intended to reduce the extent of myocardial damage (infarct size) in patients undergoing primary percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). The drug is administered via intravenous injection and has been evaluated in Phase II clinical trials in Japan.
