Tylosin is a macrolide antibiotic derived from the fermentation product of *Streptomyces fradiae*. It is exclusively used in veterinary medicine to treat a wide range of bacterial infections in various animal species, including livestock and companion animals. Its primary mechanism of action is bacteriostatic, achieved by inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis through binding to the 50S ribosomal subunit. This interference with the translocation step halts the production of essential proteins required for bacterial survival and replication. Tylosin demonstrates a broad spectrum of activity against Gram-positive bacteria, certain Gram-negative bacteria (such as *Campylobacter coli* and some spirochaetes), and *Mycoplasma* species. In addition to its antimicrobial properties, Tylosin is also utilized as a growth promotant in food-producing animals and for its anti-inflammatory effects in treating colitis in small animals. It has also been used to reduce tear staining (epiphora) in white-faced dogs. Tylosin is not approved for human use.
