Tylvalosin is a semi-synthetic, third-generation macrolide antibiotic primarily used in veterinary medicine. It is most commonly administered as its tartrate salt (tylvalosin tartrate) and marketed under the brand name Aivlosin. Tylvalosin acts by reversibly binding to the 23S rRNA of the 50S ribosomal subunit in bacteria, thereby inhibiting protein synthesis and exerting a bacteriostatic effect. Its spectrum of activity includes Gram-positive bacteria, mycoplasmas (notably *Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae*), some Gram-negative organisms such as *Lawsonia intracellularis*, but it has no activity against Enterobacteriaceae like *Escherichia coli* or *Salmonella* spp[1][4][5][7]. In addition to its antimicrobial effects, tylvalosin exhibits anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory properties by reducing pro-inflammatory cytokines and promoting resolution of inflammation[6][8]. It is approved for use in swine for conditions such as enzootic pneumonia caused by *Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae* and porcine proliferative enteropathy associated with *Lawsonia intracellularis*[4][5].
