Overview

Tymazoline is an imidazoline derivative and a sympathomimetic agent structurally related to oxymetazoline and xylometazoline. It acts as a topical nasal decongestant, primarily used for the relief of nasal congestion associated with colds, allergies, or sinusitis. Tymazoline exerts its effect by stimulating alpha-adrenergic receptors in the nasal mucosa, leading to vasoconstriction of blood vessels and subsequent reduction in swelling and congestion. Its mechanism of action is similar to other imidazoline-based decongestants such as oxymetazoline[1][5][7]. Tymazoline has been marketed in some countries but is not widely available globally.
