Overview

Tyndallized lactic acid bacteria are heat-inactivated microorganisms that function as postbiotics to treat gastrointestinal disorders. The tyndallization process involves a specific heat-treatment protocol that renders the bacteria non-viable while preserving the structural integrity of the bacterial cell wall and its metabolic byproducts. These components, including peptidoglycans and lipoteichoic acids, interact with the host's intestinal environment to support the mucosal barrier and modulate the composition of the gut microbiota. In clinical practice, these postbiotics are primarily indicated for the management of chronic diarrhea and intestinal dysbiosis. They are frequently formulated in combination with mucosal protectors, such as gelatin tannate, to provide a synergistic effect in restoring gut homeostasis and physiological barrier function. This approach is particularly advantageous as it avoids the potential risks associated with live bacterial translocation while retaining the beneficial biological activities of the microorganisms.
