Type AB plasma is a blood-derived therapeutic component obtained from donors with the AB blood group. It is characterized by the absence of both anti-A and anti-B isoagglutinins (antibodies) in the plasma, which allows it to be transfused into recipients of any ABO blood type without causing hemolytic transfusion reactions. Consequently, it is designated as the "universal donor" for plasma. Clinically, it is indicated for the management of massive hemorrhage, replacement of multiple coagulation factors (e.g., in liver disease or disseminated intravascular coagulation), and in ABO-incompatible organ transplantation protocols to manage antibody levels. Due to the rarity of the AB blood type (approximately 4% of the population), it is often in short supply and prioritized for emergency use when the recipient's blood type is unknown.
