Drug intelligence / Profile preview
TyphiBEV is a typhoid conjugate vaccine (TCV) developed by Biological E and licensed in India for the prevention of typhoid fever. The vaccine consists of the Vi capsular polysaccharide antigen, sourced from Citrobacter freundii, conjugated to the CRM197 carrier protein. This conjugation converts the T-cell independent polysaccharide antigen into a T-cell dependent antigen, enhancing immunogenicity and enabling its use in infants and young children. TyphiBEV is WHO-prequalified and is currently being evaluated in large-scale impact studies, such as the Vellore Typhoid Vaccine Impact Trial conducted by Christian Medical College, Vellore, to determine its effectiveness in reducing blood-culture-confirmed Salmonella Typhi infections in high-burden urban environments.
