Overview

Typherix is a parenteral vaccine indicated for the active immunization against typhoid fever caused by *Salmonella enterica* serovar Typhi. It is composed of the purified Vi capsular polysaccharide antigen extracted from the *S. Typhi* Ty2 strain. The vaccine functions by eliciting a humoral immune response, specifically the production of anti-Vi antibodies, which are associated with protection against the disease. Typherix is typically administered as a single intramuscular injection to adults and children over two years of age, with revaccination recommended every three years for individuals at continued risk. It was developed by GSK (formerly SmithKline Beecham) and is often compared to other Vi polysaccharide vaccines like Typhim Vi.
