Typhoid VI Polysaccharide Vaccine is a subunit vaccine composed of the purified Vi capsular polysaccharide antigen derived from *Salmonella Typhi*, the causative agent of typhoid fever. It works by inducing a T-cell-independent immune response, leading to the production of IgG antibodies that recognize and neutralize the Vi antigen on the surface of the bacteria. The vaccine is typically administered as a single dose via intramuscular or subcutaneous injection and is indicated for active immunization against typhoid fever in adults and children aged 2 years and older. In clinical research, it is frequently employed as an active control or comparator vaccine in trials for other infectious diseases, such as the SMART trial for mpox post-exposure prophylaxis, due to its established safety profile and similar administration route.
