typhoid Vi antigen vaccine

The typhoid Vi antigen vaccine is a pharmaceutical drug developed to prevent typhoid fever. It was one of the approved vaccine candidates acquired by Ranbaxy Laboratories from Biovel Lifesciences in January 2010, along with a manufacturing facility and other product rights. The vaccine had regulatory approval in India at the time of acquisition. Ranbaxy's strategic goal was to establish a vaccine and biotherapeutics franchise in emerging markets. However, by November 2013, Ranbaxy had not commercialized any products from this acquisition, incurred impairment losses, and was reportedly planning to divest the Biovel assets.
