Tyrophagus putrescentiae extract is a biological preparation derived from the storage mite, *Tyrophagus putrescentiae*, also known as the mould or cheese mite. [14] This mite is a significant source of indoor allergens, and sensitization can lead to allergic diseases including asthma, allergic rhinitis, and atopic dermatitis. [8, 11] The extract contains a complex mixture of allergenic proteins, such as Tyr p 2, Tyr p 8, and Tyr p 13, which can trigger Type I hypersensitivity reactions in susceptible individuals by binding to IgE antibodies. [2, 6, 13] The extract is used for in-vitro and in-vivo diagnostic testing to identify sensitization to this specific mite. [5] Furthermore, it is used as the active ingredient in allergen-specific immunotherapy (AIT), a disease-modifying treatment for allergic conditions. [4, 18] AIT involves the repeated administration of the allergen extract to induce immunological tolerance, which can lead to a long-term reduction in allergy symptoms by shifting the immune response from an allergic Th2 profile towards a more regulated state. [4, 18]
