Overview

Tyrosine adsorbed hazel pollen allergoid is a subcutaneous allergen immunotherapy (SCIT) product developed by Allergy Therapeutics. It consists of hazel (Corylus avellana) pollen allergens that have been chemically modified with glutaraldehyde to form allergoids, which are then adsorbed onto a microcrystalline L-tyrosine depot. The allergoid modification reduces the allergen's ability to bind IgE, thereby decreasing the risk of immediate allergic reactions (allergenicity), while maintaining the ability to stimulate T-cells (immunogenicity) to induce immune tolerance. The L-tyrosine adjuvant acts as a slow-release depot, providing sustained exposure to the allergen and allowing for a more convenient, shorter updosing schedule compared to traditional aqueous extracts. It is typically used as a component of tree pollen immunotherapy products (such as Pollinex Quattro Tree) for the treatment of seasonal allergic rhinoconjunctivitis and allergic asthma in patients sensitized to hazel pollen.
