Tyrosol is a naturally occurring phenylethanoid and a derivative of phenethyl alcohol found in various natural sources, most notably olive oil. It is classified as a small molecule antioxidant with demonstrated biological activities including antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, cardioprotective, neuroprotective, anti-apoptotic and stress-protective effects. Tyrosol acts by reducing oxidative stress and promoting the activity of cellular antioxidant defense enzymes such as catalase (CAT), superoxide dismutase (SOD), glutathione reductase (GR), and glutathione peroxidase (GP). Preclinical studies suggest it may protect against ischemic stroke and cardiovascular injury by modulating signaling pathways involved in cell survival and inflammation[1][3][5]. Tyrosol is also present as an active constituent in Rhodiola rosea extracts[6].
