Tyrphostin B48 is a synthetic small molecule that functions as a potent and selective inhibitor of protein tyrosine kinases, particularly the epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) kinase. It belongs to the tyrphostin family of compounds characterized by their hydroxy-benzylidenemalononitrile pharmacophore. Tyrphostin B48 inhibits EGFR kinase activity and has been used experimentally to study signal transduction pathways involving EGFR and related kinases.
