TZ-POR 7b is a specialized small molecule photosensitizer designed for use in photodynamic therapy (PDT) and bio-orthogonal chemistry. It consists of a porphyrin core, which acts as a chromophore for light absorption and reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation, conjugated to a tetrazine (TZ) moiety. This tetrazine group allows the molecule to participate in rapid and highly selective bio-orthogonal 'click' reactions with trans-cyclooctene (TCO) modified targets, such as antibodies or nanoparticles. Upon irradiation with specific wavelengths of light, TZ-POR 7b undergoes an energy transfer process with molecular oxygen to produce singlet oxygen ($^1O_2$), which induces localized oxidative stress and cell death (apoptosis or necrosis). This compound is primarily utilized in preclinical research to explore targeted, image-guided PDT and the spatial control of phototoxicity in oncological applications.
