Drug intelligence / Profile preview
TZLS-201 (also referred to as TZ-POR) is a porphyrin-based drug candidate developed by Tiziana Life Sciences for the treatment of pulmonary diseases characterized by excessive inflammation and oxidative stress, such as COVID-19 and Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS). The drug is a metal-porphyrin complex that functions as a potent scavenger of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and reactive nitrogen species (RNS). By neutralizing these oxidative molecules, TZLS-201 aims to mitigate the "cytokine storm" and reduce lung tissue damage associated with severe respiratory infections. It is designed for administration via a nebulizer to deliver the drug directly to the lungs, providing a localized anti-inflammatory effect. Tiziana acquired the worldwide license for this technology from Rasna Therapeutics in 2020.
