TZLS-501

TZLS-501 is a fully human monoclonal antibody that targets the interleukin-6 receptor (IL-6R), binding to both its membrane-bound and soluble forms. By antagonizing IL-6R, it blocks downstream signaling pathways and rapidly depletes circulating levels of IL-6, a cytokine implicated in chronic inflammation and cytokine release syndrome. This dual mechanism distinguishes TZLS-501 from other anti–IL‑6R antibodies by offering potentially faster suppression of inflammatory responses at lower doses. The drug was originally developed by Novimmune and later acquired by Tiziana Life Sciences. It is being developed primarily for inflammatory diseases such as idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF), acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), multiple myeloma, arthritis, lupus, oncology indications, and was considered for COVID‑19–related lung injury. Development has been deprioritized but manufacturing scale-up for clinical supplies has been reported[1][2][4][5][6][7][8].
