U-47700

U-47700 is a potent synthetic opioid analgesic originally developed by The Upjohn Company in the 1970s. It acts as a selective agonist for the mu-opioid receptor, with a potency estimated to be approximately 7.5 times that of morphine in animal models. Although intended for the treatment of severe pain, the compound never underwent clinical trials in humans and was never approved for medical use. In the mid-2010s, it surfaced on the illicit drug market as a novel psychoactive substance (NPS), often referred to by street names such as 'pink' or 'U4.' Due to its high potential for abuse and association with numerous fatal overdoses, it has been classified as a Schedule I controlled substance in the United States.
