Overview

U-Cord is an FDA-approved hematopoietic progenitor cell (HPC) therapy derived from human umbilical cord blood. Developed by Clinimmune Labs at the University of Colorado, it is indicated for use in unrelated donor hematopoietic progenitor cell transplantation procedures. The therapy is intended for patients with disorders affecting the hematopoietic system, including certain hematologic malignancies, primary immunodeficiencies, and inborn errors of metabolism. U-Cord works by providing a source of hematopoietic stem and progenitor cells that, upon intravenous infusion, migrate to the recipient's bone marrow. Once engrafted, these cells undergo self-renewal and differentiation into various blood cell lineages, including erythrocytes, leukocytes, and platelets, thereby restoring functional hematopoiesis and immune competence in patients who have undergone myeloablative or non-myeloablative conditioning regimens.
