Drug intelligence / Profile preview
U-Dream Lite is an orally administered sleep-aid product marketed by Biotrade Canada as a natural herbal supplement for insomnia, particularly to help users return to sleep after waking during the night. Although marketed as containing ingredients such as L-tryptophan, turmeric extract, and tuber fleece flower, regulatory testing found that the product was adulterated with zopiclone impurity 22, an undeclared small molecule structurally related to zopiclone and eszopiclone that likely exerts sedative-hypnotic central nervous system effects through the gamma-aminobutyric acid type A receptor benzodiazepine site in a manner analogous to cyclopyrrolone hypnotics. The product was recalled in the United States and Canada in 2019 because of serious safety risks including excessive sedation, neuropsychiatric effects, dependence, and withdrawal, and its Canadian licenses were suspended.
