Overview

U3-1565 is a fully human monoclonal antibody that targets heparin-binding epidermal growth factor-like growth factor (HB-EGF), a member of the EGF family and ligand for EGFR and HER4. By binding to HB-EGF, U3-1565 inhibits its activity, which mediates angiogenesis through induction of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF-A). The drug was developed as an antineoplastic agent with preclinical anti-tumor and anti-angiogenesis activity. Clinical studies in patients with advanced solid tumors demonstrated safety, tolerability, pharmacokinetics, and some clinical activity; however, development was discontinued after phase 1 trials in colorectal cancer and other solid tumors[1][2][4][5].
