U87-MG lipid extract nanoliposomes (CLENs) are biomimetic nanoparticles designed for the targeted treatment of glioblastoma multiforme (GBM). These nanoliposomes are engineered by incorporating membrane lipid extracts derived from U87-MG human glioma cells into a lipid bilayer typically composed of DOPC and cholesterol. The rationale behind this approach is to leverage the natural homologous targeting or self-recognition properties of cancer cell membranes to enhance selective uptake by glioma cells while minimizing off-target effects on healthy tissues. In vitro studies have demonstrated that these modified nanoliposomes exhibit increased cellular uptake in various glioma cell lines, including U87-MG, LN-18, and T98G, compared to standard liposomal controls. The research is being conducted at the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences.
