UB-621 is a fully human IgG1 monoclonal antibody developed as a long-acting treatment for genital herpes caused by herpes simplex virus types 1 and 2 (HSV-1 and HSV-2). It works by binding specifically to the conserved envelope glycoprotein D (gD) of HSV, thereby blocking viral entry into host cells and inhibiting both wild-type and drug-resistant strains. UB-621 has demonstrated strong viral suppression of transmission and recurrence in preclinical studies, with high potency against HSV infections. The drug is administered subcutaneously, exhibits a long elimination half-life of approximately 25 days, and is being developed primarily for recurrent genital herpes. United BioPharma leads its development, with research collaborations involving the University of Washington, National Institute for Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), University of Duisburg Essen, Germany, and Dartmouth College[1][3][4][5][6][7].
