Drug intelligence / Profile preview
UB-ALT-EV is an optimized small-molecule N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) receptor antagonist developed by researchers at the University of Barcelona. It is designed to provide neuroprotective and proneurogenic effects, particularly in the context of Alzheimer's disease and age-related cognitive decline. Preclinical studies in the senescence-accelerated mouse prone 8 (SAMP8) model have shown that oral administration of UB-ALT-EV improves working memory and promotes the survival and proliferation of neural progenitor cells in the hippocampal dentate gyrus. The compound aims to mitigate NMDA receptor-mediated excitotoxicity while supporting synaptic plasticity and neurogenesis.
