Overview

UBE-1099 (also known as GP-051 or UD-051) is a small molecule inhibitor of the Keap1–Nrf2 protein–protein interaction (PPI). By blocking the interaction between Kelch-like ECH-associated protein 1 (Keap1) and Nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 (Nrf2), the drug prevents the Keap1-mediated degradation of Nrf2, thereby activating the Nrf2 antioxidant pathway. This mechanism aims to reduce oxidative stress, inflammation, and fibrosis in the kidneys. Developed by GALTS Pharma and licensed to UBE Corporation, UBE-1099 is being advanced for the treatment of Alport syndrome and chronic kidney disease (CKD). The compound has shown efficacy in preclinical models, including Alport syndrome mouse models, and is currently in the IND-enabling stage with support from the Japan Agency for Medical Research and Development (AMED).
