The UBI HIV-1 MN peptide vaccine is a synthetic peptide immunogen developed by United Biomedical, Inc. (UBI) primarily for the prevention and treatment of HIV-1 infection. The vaccine is based on the V3 loop region of the HIV-1 envelope glycoprotein gp120, specifically derived from the MN strain, which was a dominant isolate in North America and Europe during its development. The vaccine typically utilizes a branched structure, such as an octameric multiple antigenic peptide (MAP) or is conjugated to a carrier protein to enhance immunogenicity. Its mechanism of action involves inducing the production of neutralizing antibodies that target the V3 loop, a critical domain for viral entry and coreceptor binding (CCR5/CXCR4). In early clinical trials, it demonstrated the ability to elicit V3-specific antibodies and lymphoproliferative responses, although development did not proceed to late-stage approval.
