Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Ubidecarenone + Levocarnitine is a combination of two nutraceutical compounds being investigated for the treatment of male infertility, specifically idiopathic oligoasthenoteratospermia (OAT). Ubidecarenone (Coenzyme Q10) is a lipid-soluble antioxidant and a critical component of the mitochondrial electron transport chain, where it facilitates ATP production. Levocarnitine (L-Carnitine) is an amino acid derivative essential for the transport of long-chain fatty acids into the mitochondria for beta-oxidation. In the context of sperm health, these compounds work synergistically to reduce oxidative stress and enhance mitochondrial energy metabolism, which are vital for sperm motility and maturation. This combination is currently being evaluated in early-phase clinical trials by Ain Shams University.
