Ubiquinol is the reduced and active antioxidant form of coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10), a fat-soluble compound naturally present in every cell membrane of the body. Ubiquinol plays a critical role in mitochondrial energy production by participating in the electron transport chain and acts as a potent antioxidant to protect cells from oxidative damage. It is converted from ubiquinone (the oxidized form) within the body and is considered more bioavailable than ubiquinone supplements. Ubiquinol supplementation may help restore or maintain optimal cellular energy levels and reduce oxidative stress. It has been studied for use in conditions such as heart failure, migraine prevention, mitochondrial disorders (including mitochondrial myopathies), diabetic neuropathy, fibromyalgia, high blood pressure (hypertension), neurodegenerative diseases like Parkinson’s disease and Alzheimer’s disease, male infertility related to sperm quality/quantity decline with age or oxidative stress exposure; it may also be used to counteract statin-induced reductions in endogenous CoQ10 levels[1][2][5][6][9].
