Overview

Ubiquinone Q1 is a synthetic analog of coenzyme Q (ubiquinones), specifically with a single isoprenoid unit in its side chain. It belongs to the class of organic compounds known as ubiquinones or coenzymes Q. While the most common form in humans is coenzyme Q10 (ubiquinone-10), ubiquinone Q1 has been used primarily as an experimental compound and research tool rather than for clinical supplementation or therapy. Like other ubiquinones, it acts as an electron carrier within the mitochondrial electron transport chain and possesses antioxidant properties. However, due to its shorter side chain compared to natural forms like coenzyme Q10 or coenzyme Q9 (the main forms in mammals), it is not widely used therapeutically and does not have established indications for human disease[6].
