Overview

Ubiquitin-conjugating enzyme E2C (UBE2C) small interfering RNA (siRNA) refers to a class of RNA interference-based therapeutic candidates designed to silence the expression of the UBE2C gene. UBE2C, also known as UBCH10, is a member of the E2 ubiquitin-conjugating enzyme family and plays a critical role in the cell cycle by facilitating the degradation of mitotic cyclins through the Anaphase-Promoting Complex/Cyclosome (APC/C). UBE2C is frequently overexpressed in a wide array of human malignancies, including breast, lung, ovarian, and colorectal cancers, where it promotes uncontrolled cell proliferation and chromosomal instability. By utilizing the RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC) to target and degrade UBE2C mRNA, these siRNAs effectively reduce UBE2C protein levels, leading to cell cycle arrest, increased apoptosis, and enhanced sensitivity to chemotherapeutic agents like taxanes. While extensively studied in preclinical research and various animal models, specific clinical-stage assets targeting UBE2C via siRNA are currently in early development or academic investigation.
