UBP1213sc is a recombinant humanized monoclonal antibody that targets the B lymphocyte stimulator (BLyS), also known as B-cell activating factor (BAFF). Developed by Junshi Biosciences, it is a subcutaneous formulation of the drug UBP1213 designed for the treatment of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). The antibody works by binding to and neutralizing soluble BLyS, a cytokine essential for the survival, maturation, and differentiation of B cells. By inhibiting BLyS, UBP1213sc reduces the population of autoreactive B cells and the production of pathogenic autoantibodies, which are central to the inflammatory processes and organ damage in SLE. The subcutaneous route of administration is intended to provide a more convenient dosing option for patients compared to intravenous alternatives, potentially improving long-term treatment adherence and patient compliance.
