Overview

Ubrogepant is a small-molecule calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) receptor antagonist used for the acute treatment of migraine attacks with or without aura in adults. It is not indicated for the prevention of migraines. Ubrogepant works by blocking CGRP receptors in the brain, which prevents CGRP from binding and triggering processes that lead to migraine symptoms such as blood vessel dilation, pain signaling, and inflammation. The drug was developed to provide an oral alternative to previous CGRP antagonists with improved safety regarding liver toxicity. Ubrogepant was first approved by the FDA in December 2019 and is marketed under the brand name Ubrelvy[1][3][4][6][7].
